Field Heroes is an awareness campaign developed by the Western Grains Research Foundation (WGRF) to increase understanding of beneficial insects and the role they play in effective pest management across Western Canada.
Our goal is to help farmers, agronomists, and crop advisors recognize the good bugs already working in their fields so they can make informed, balanced crop protection decisions that consider both pests and their natural enemies.
Field Heroes promotes beneficial insect awareness as a key part of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). The campaign highlights how practices such as scouting insect identification, and awareness of economic thresholds can help maintain productive, resilient farm ecosystems.
The Prairie Pest Monitoring Network (PPMN) provides the research and real-time insect population data that informs pest management across the Prairies. Field Heroes works alongside PPMN by translating these insights into accessible tools and resources that support on-farm decision-making.
